Brick Court Chambers maintains its excellent reputation as ‘a top end set’ in the civil fraud space. In Republic of Mozambique v Credit Suisse and others, a high-profile claim involving allegations of fraud, corruption and bribery concerning the procurement of sovereign guarantees worth $2bn in what is known as the "tuna bonds" scandal, Richard Blakeley KC acted for the Republic in proceedings against the Privinvest Group, represented by Tom Woolgar; the court ruled in favour of the Republic against the Privinvest defendants. In the same case, Stephen Midwinter KC, Fred Hobson KC, Laura Newton and Tom Wood represented banks that provided syndicated lending to Mozambique. In recent developments at the set, Edward Harrison KC took silk in March 2025.

Rising stars

Rising stars at the Bar are defined as barristers between four and eight years’ call who are seen as up-and-coming members of the Bar in their respective practice areas by clients and peers alike. They will already be instructed in high-profile, complex, and high-value contentious and non-contentious matters, working with and opposite more experienced leading counsel.
