Rafael Serrano is a senior associate at CorralRosales. Has more than 5 years of experience in the areas of Environmental Law and Data Protection, as well as in the Energy, Natural Resources and TMT industries. 

In the Environmental area, his work includes obtaining permits, preparing preventive due diligence and representing clients in administrative and judicial proceedings. 

In the Natural Resources industry, Rafael has focused his practice in the Mining and Oil sectors, advising his clients about compliance with the specific regulations in this field. Rafael’s advice to companies in the ​​natural resources area has a large environmental component, guiding compliance with environmental regulations specific to the sector. 

Rafael has broad experience in the TMT industry and heads the ​​Data Protection Department, with special emphasis on the protection of personal data, electronic commerce and electronic and IT contracts. 

In addition to working for CorralRosales, Rafael is a tenured professor at the Universidad de las Américas, where he teaches New Technologies Law, Environmental Law, and Real Rights Law. He is an active member of international organizations engaged in technology and data protection such as Iteachlaw and the International Association of Privacy Professionals. 

Rafael participates actively in forums and congresses on data protection issues in different chambers and organizations in EcuadorHe has published articles both locally and internationally on the rights of nature, strict liability in environmental matters and data protection in Ecuador. Rafael is a founding member of the “Enseña Ecuador” foundation, an NGO dedicated to the development of education in Ecuador.

Rafael is a graduate from the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador. He holds a Masters Degree in Energy Law and Natural Resources from the University of Melbourne. He is a specialist in Environmental Law from Universidad Católica Argentina and a specialist in New Technologies Law from Universidad Católica Argentina. He has attended several graduate courses in universities abroadincluding courses in Damages Law, Banking and Financial Law and Administrative Law by Universidad Católica Argentina.
