Matt represents financial institutions, public and private companies, asset managers, and individual executives and employees on issues ranging from regulatory compliance and remediation advice to advocacy and litigation against the government and private parties.

Career

Matt joined Cleary Gottlieb as a partner after serving for 15 years as a white-collar prosecutor and supervisor with the DOJ and as a senior enforcement official with the SEC—most recently as the SEC’s Chief Litigation Counsel. Before joining Cleary, Matt served as the SEC’s Deputy Chief Litigation Counsel in 2012, and was elevated to be the agency’s Chief Litigation Counsel in 2013. In this role, Matt led the SEC’s 150-attorney national trial unit and supervised the SEC’s litigated cases in federal courts and administrative proceedings. Prior to the SEC, Matt served in several prominent positions over 10 years with the DOJ.
