Matt works with clients on their most complex and demanding problems. He enjoys working closely with clients to understand their businesses and to help develop strategies to achieve the best outcome possible.
In recent years, Matt has worked most closely with companies in the oil and gas industry and the real estate business. Matt frequently advises on complex contractual situations and has extensive experience with force majeure and extra-contractual defenses.
Matt is co-Managing Partner of the Dallas office and serves on the firm’s Management Committee.

Matthew Stammel heads the energy litigation department in Dallas, and is the point of contact for a number of oil and gas companies and private equity firms on complex disputes. From Houston, fellow co-head Jim Thompson advises on the full spectrum of energy-related litigation in several state and federal courts. The team also includes Houston’s Nicholas Shum, whose broad practice spans energy litigation and contract disputes involving upstream, midstream and oilfield service companies, and Stephanie Noble, known for her considerable experience in commercial litigation in state and federal courts throughout the US.
