(Leading partners)A strong partner to companies in the mining and minerals sphere, Lloreda Camacho & Co. ‘stands out for its specialised knowledge on mining issues and the regulation of the sector’. The team packs a punch across the full life cycle of mining work, from regulatory and licensing matters, through to projects, transactions and contentious issues. Clients include some of the largest multinational mining corporations operating in Colombia, including Minera Monte Águila (a joint venture between Agnico Eagle Mines and Newmont), Anglo American Services (UK) and Zijin-Continental Gold. High-profile mining specialist Ignacio Santamaria fronts a practice that also includes Angela María Salazar, who focuses on mining and environmental law.
Colombia > Environment
Lloreda Camacho & Co.’s environmental law practice utilises the wider firm’s strengths in the mining and life sciences areas to excel in matters concerning those industries, but it also shines in issues concerning the technology, manufacturing and consumer goods sectors. The team’s recent experience encompasses the full life cycle of environmental law work, and it is well versed in regulatory compliance and licensing processes, through to environmental due diligence and administrative investigations. Senior associate Natalia Soto is an increasingly prominent environmental law specialist and stands out for her ‘excellent client service’. The overarching mining and natural resources department is led jointly by Ignacio Santamaria and Angela María Salazar, both of whom also handle environmental law matters.
Colombia > Tax
The ‘extremely agile’ tax group at Lloreda Camacho & Co. frequently supports the firm’s corporate team on transactional tax matters. Other practice sweet spots include tax planning and contentious work. The department is led jointly by Ignacio Santamaria — whose practice is informed by his additional leadership of the natural resources, foreign trade, and customs groups — and senior associate Andrea Vargas, who joined in July 2023 from MPV Abogados. Senior associate Juan Fernando Díaz is also noted. Former senior Luis Felipe Paredes left to go freelance in July 2023.
