Kok Keong Chan
Kok Keong Chan
Kok Keong joined Shook Lin & Bok in 1998 and became a partner in 2004. His area of practice is Dispute Resolution with a principal focus on Banking & Finance Litigation and Shipping & Maritime. He regularly assists financial institutions, corporations, and individuals in both advisory and litigation matters whether as claimant or defendant at all levels of the Malaysian Courts.  In this role, he has had conduct of debt recovery actions (conventional/Islamic retail/trade financing), enforcement proceedings, security realisation and insolvency practice as well as claims involving negligence, defamation, breach of contract and asset ownership disputes (i.e. land, maritime vessels). He has also acted in claims concerning fraud/misappropriation of assets, minority oppression/shareholders disputes, land acquisition and reference, judicial reviews, tenancies as well as property recovery seized/forfeited under anti-money laundering/terrorism financing/drug offence related laws. He is a member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association of Malaysia and INSOL International. He is a contributor to Sweet & Maxwell’s The Annotated Malaysian Companies Act 2016 and has appeared on RTM’s TV programme “Dari Meja Peguam”.
Ivan Ho
Ivan Ho
 Ivan is a senior partners of the firm and he practices in the areas of Corporate, Banking & Finance and Technology, Multimedia & Telecommunications Law. He has advised on and acted in respect of Malaysian and international transactions including acquisitions as well as disposals of corporations and of the business undertakings of corporations including commercial banks, investment banks, insurance companies, stockbroking companies, takeovers of companies (both friendly and hostile, for offerors and offerees), restructuring and amalgamation of companies, Companies Act section 176 schemes of arrangement, the issuance and offering of shares, debt and other securities, and legal due diligence exercises. He has also advised on incorporation of companies, formation of joint ventures, directors’ responsibilities, shareholders’ rights, and compliance with Malaysian corporate and securities laws generally. Ivan contributes to the Malaysian section of the Simmons & Simmons Navigator Services in respect of. Inter alia, share disclosure requirements and other corporate matters. As part of his IT practice, he has acted for IT companies in relation to licensing agreements, supply contracts and system integration agreements as well as other companies in relation to IT matters. He has also acted for the Association of Merchant Banks Malaysia in advising on the “Guidelines On Electronic Prospectuses and Internet Securities Application” and providing input to the Securities Commission in relation thereto. He has spoken at seminars and conferences relating to companies and securities laws as well as contract laws.
Mei Lin Khong
Mei Lin Khong
Mei Lin is a senior partner of the firm and heads the Loan & Debt Restructuring department. She has over 30 years of experience in the areas of banking, debt restructuring, corporate, real estate and commercial transactions. Her experience in banking covers a broad range of banking transactions including bilateral and syndicated loans, club deals, security sharing arrangements, infrastructure and project financing, ship financing, off-shore and cross border loan transactions. She also advises and acts for banks, bondholders, trustees, agent banks in complex debt restructurings, formal schemes of arrangement under Section 176 of the Companies Act 1965, debt restructuring schemes under the Corporate Debt Restructuring Committee of Bank Negara Malaysia (CDRC) and work-outs under Special Administrators appointed pursuant to the Pengurusan Danaharta Nasional Berhad Act 1998. Mei Lin has extensive experience in acting for buyers and sellers of non-performing loans (NPLs) and has been involved in all aspects of the transaction from both the buyer's and the seller's perspective including the due diligence and bidding process, advising and structuring the special purpose vehicle to acquire the NPLs, drafting and reviewing the sale and purchase agreement, regulatory compliance, vesting and transfer of the NPLs and post-acquisition work. She regularly advises and acts in sale and purchase transactions involving shares of companies, office and commercial buildings, data centre, development land, industrial buildings and residential properties, joint venture development projects, receivership and liquidator sales and sales by public auctions and open tenders.
Ko Luen Lam
Ko Luen Lam
Ko Luen is a Partner of the firm and he heads the firm’s Arbitration (International & Domestic), Building, Construction & Engineering and Insurance departments. Ko Luen specializes in the areas arbitration, construction disputes, civil and corporate litigation. He appears as counsel in court, arbitration and adjudication hearings. Ko Luen also sits as an arbitrator in arbitration proceedings and an adjudicator in adjudication proceedings. His work experience includes: Advisory, drafting and assisting in negotiations, representing clients (local and multinationals) in court and in domestic and international arbitration proceedings. Advising clients on matters relating to EPCC and REPPA in Malaysia, issues arising out of design and construction of bridges, shipbuilding contracts in China, construction of oil and gas platforms in Malaysia, design and construction of ports in Malaysia, major hydro-electric projects in Sarawak, , construction of major highway in Sarawak, construction work related to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), major projects undertaken in Singapore and Johor relating to construction contracts involving rehabilitation, refurbishment, design, fabrication, shipment, erection, testing, engineering, procurement and construction of terminal export facilities of a butadiene extraction plant, the design and construction of a major water treatment plant in Johor, matters relating to the manufacturer and supply of Electric Train Sets (ETS), contracts relating to major tunnelling works and a major joint venture involving over 11,000 hectares of land in Sabah. Providing legal representation to foreign governments including the Government of Singapore, the Government of India and the Government of Laos in proceedings in Malaysia. Arbitration proceedings under various institutional rules including the AIAC (formerly known as KLRCA) Rules, the SIAC Rules, the UNCITRAL Rules, the PAM Rules and the ICC Rules of Arbitration Adjudication proceedings under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA).
Hooi Huang Ng
Hooi Huang is a Senior Partner in the firm’s Dispute Resolution Department, and a member of the Management Committee of the firm. She heads the firm's China Desk and Family, Probate & Trusts Department and is the deputy head of the General & Corporate Litigation and the Shipping & Maritime Departments. Hooi Huang’s areas of practice cover corporate and commercial litigation including recovery and enforcement of security (including vessel arrest and sale, and asset tracing), receivership, corporate insolvency or liquidation, bankruptcy, restructuring of debts and corporate rescue mechanism (i.e., schemes of arrangements and judicial management), contractual (including IT contracts) and tortious claims as well as land disputes. Hooi Huang has in-depth knowledge of the banking sector where she advises and represents financial institutions in high-value debt recovery actions (both conventional loan and Islamic finance), and also in defending actions brought against financial institutions and corporations including claim for negligence, conspiracy, fraud, breach of trust and breach of fiduciary and/or statutory duties. Over the years, Hooi Huang has developed a niche practice in corporate insolvency and restructuring where she has appeared as co-counsel and counsel in various precedent and notable cases (among others, Corporate Rescue Mechanism: Federal Court, Francis Augustine Pereira v. Dataran Mantin Sdn Bhd & Ors And Other Appeals [2014] 1 CLJ 161, Court of Appeal, Maybank Investment Bank Berhad & 3 Others v. Hooi Huang is often consulted and appointed as counsel for various high profile corporate insolvency and restructuring disputes. Hooi Huang was invited by INSOL International and spoke, alongside a panel of speakers from Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, on a topic relating to Corporate Rescue Mechanism, Structuring and Cross Border Insolvency at the INSOL International Kuala Lumpur Seminar held on 5th December 2023, alongside a panel of speakers from Hong Kong, China, Singapore and Australia at the INSOL International Shanghai Seminar held on 28th August 2025 and at seminars organized by insolvency practitioners on Corporate Rescue Mechanism. Hooi Huang was also invited by Sino International Professional Advisory Council (SIPAC) in 2024 and spoke, alongside esteemed panellists from Cyprus, Indonesia, Serbia and Singapore/Switzerland, on the topic of Key lessons for Chinese global companies from high-profile international litigation and arbitration cases at the Second Annual Sino-International Law Forum held on 14th and 15th November 2024 in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China. JAL OTHMAN is a partner in the corporate and commercial law practice group in Shook Lin & Bok, one of the oldest and largest law firm in Malaysia. Jal works with a team of approximately 20 lawyers advising on corporate and commercial deals, both for onshore and cross border clients. His portfolio of work includes advising on a wide range of corporate mergers and acquisitions, business disposal plans, internal company restructuring and joint ventures and other commercial collaborations. Jal’s involvement in the banking and finance practice group of the Firm provides a firm footing in corporate finance and this effectively complements his work in the corporate department.
