Position

Shaphan was called to the bar in 2014.  He is both a barrister and mediator. His practice covers all areas of civil law, including matrimonial law as well as commercial disputes and advisory work.

Shaphan is ranked as one of Hong Kong’s top junior counsel in family law by Doyle’s Guide and is an executive committee member of the Hong Kong Family Law Association (HKFLA). He is also an experienced mediator in family and children’s matters and acts as an advocate in mediations and private Financial Dispute Resolution hearings (FDRs).

Shaphan’s civil practice covers all areas of commercial litigation and advisory work, including company law, insolvency, contractual disputes, complex commercial frauds, cross-border disputes, regulatory and disciplinary issues, and employment matters. Shaphan acts as counsel in commercial arbitrations.

Shaphan contributes to several leading legal reference texts, including Hong Kong Civil Court Practice and Archbold, and is co-author of the Hong Kong Family Court Tables (www.duxburyetc.com) and Hong Kong Family Court Practice (2nd edition).  Shaphan has an L.L.M. in International Legal Studies from Georgetown University, and has previously lectured on commercial law at the master’s level. He regularly delivers CPD trainings on a range of topics related to child and family law.  

Shaphan has a particular interest in promoting equality as well as children’s rights.  He sits on the board of Resolve Foundation and provides legal support to a number of NGOs, including Mother’s Choice.

Pantheon Chambers has an active family law team that is home to Azan Marwah, who joined the set in January 2023 from Resolution Chambers. His practice focuses on public law and family litigation, including cases regarding child custody, adoption and wardship, ancillary relief, inheritance and probate, and international child abduction. In RM v AY, Marwah acted for the claimant in successfully annulling her forced marriage on the grounds of duress, the first case of its kind in Hong Kong. Shaphan Marwah also has a notable family law practice, covering matrimonial finance matters, children-related disputes, and issues concerning the Hague Convention. He also appears regularly before the High Court and District Court in high-value financial remedy cases. Ronald Pang has a growing practice with expertise in handling high-net-worth family assets.
