SCOPE OF ACTIVITIES

1. We are experienced in working with foreign clients of every size in a wide range of practices and sectors and on assignments of every complexity, magnitude and novelty. We have well in excess of 100 foreign clients and the largest single national block of these are clients whose ultimate parent headquarters are located in the USA (“USA Clients”). We have at least one Fortune 100 USA Client, and at least two USA Clients outside the Fortune 100, in every one of our eight practice and sector groups: disputes; energy; projects; corporate; finance; tax; commercial; and New Economy (by which we mean media, entertainment, telecommunications, technology, and “Fintech”).

2. We are members of Africa’s leading collective of business law firms, the Africa Legal Network. This is an alliance of leading independent top-tier law firms in Africa. The firms are located in sixteen countries and four major regional economic groupings – EAC, ECOWAS, SADC, and COMESA – with a combined population of 700 million people. ALN also works closely with affiliates in the United Arab Emirates and Mauritius. ALN firms share common values, standards, training, technology, branding and business development and are committed to working together to provide extensive coverage and on-the-ground experience. By leveraging the expertise and skills of each member firm, the group offers seamless delivery of legal, advisory and transactional services, with a focus on complex and multi-jurisdictional matters. By working closely together, ALN member firms regularly manage deals across jurisdictions using a “one-stop shop” approach.

CAPACITY

3. We have strength and depth in all of our eight practice and sector groups. One of our senior partners is a New York qualified lawyer and has three years’ experience working as a regular associate in a premier New York Law firm. We are an independent business law practice led by a partnership into which associates who have served an “apprenticeship” with the firm may be admitted. Our lawyers are talented and motivated and undergo continuous training for them to become proficient, versatile and business-minded legal practitioners. Our lawyers also attend both publicly-available and bespoke courses led by professional instructors from outside the firm both in Nigeria and abroad on other legal subjects and on non-law subjects such as basic accounting and investment banking. We strive to develop our associates such that each of them will become both a general strategic counsellor and a specialized expert in one or more area(s) of what we do. Every assignment that we take on is overseen by a partner who will be responsible for the quality of the service that we render and liaise regularly with the client on the progress of the work.
