Magliona Abogados consolidates specialized team in Data Protection and Digital Regulation
The firm announces the consolidation of a senior team specializing in privacy, cybersecurity, and digital regulation, anticipating the challenges posed by the new Personal Data Protection Law and increasing regulatory scrutiny in Chile and across the region.
Santiago, Chile, January 2026. In the context of the implementation of the new regulatory framework on personal data protection, cybersecurity, and the digital economy, Magliona Abogados announced the consolidation of its Personal Data Team, a strategic practice aimed at supporting companies, organizations, and public institutions in regulatory compliance and in managing risks associated with the intensive use of data.
The team is led by Jessica Matus together with Bárbara Reyes and Matías Danús, all of whom have a distinguished track record in regulation, privacy, cybersecurity, public policy, and technology and telecommunications. Their profiles combine experience across the public and private sectors, as well as participation in national and international regulatory and policy-making processes.
“This is not merely an organic strengthening of the firm but a strategic decision in response to a structural shift in the regulatory environment,” said Claudio Magliona, Partner at Magliona Abogados. “Data protection has ceased to be a purely technical matter and has become a core pillar of corporate governance, competitiveness, and trust. Having a team of this caliber is essential to support our clients through this transition.”
A comprehensive view of the digital economy
The firm’s Personal Data Team combines advanced legal expertise with a deep understanding of regulated markets, the digital economy, and the compliance requirements organizations face today—particularly in data-intensive and highly supervised sectors.
Jessica Matus Arenas, Managing Attorney, has more than 20 years of experience in personal data protection and cybersecurity, with an active role in the design and implementation of public policies in Chile and Latin America. She has advised governments, international organizations, and companies; is a member of the Ministerial Advisory Committee for the implementation of the Personal Data Protection Law (2025) in the country; and was recognized as one of the “100 Leading Women” in 2024. She is a co-founder of Fundación Datos Protegidos and Internet Society Chile and a lecturer in postgraduate university programs.
Bárbara Reyes Espinoza, Managing Attorney, focuses her practice on technology law, privacy, cybersecurity, public policy, and government relations. She joined the firm in 2019 and has been recognized by The Legal 500 Latin America 2026 in TMT (Leading Associate), Best Lawyers 2026 in Technology Law and Privacy and Data Security Law. She is a contributor to Chambers and Partners specialized guides and a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
Matías Danús Gallegos, Managing Attorney, has extensive experience in regulatory matters, telecommunications, audiovisual content, consumer law, and competition law. He previously served as Head of Regulatory Affairs at VTR Comunicaciones and has led complex proceedings before sector authorities, regulatory bodies, and specialized courts. His expertise is key to addressing the intersection between data protection, regulated markets, and regulatory compliance. He is also a member of the IAPP.
“The new legal landscape demands advisory services that integrate regulatory compliance, risk management, corporate strategy, and technological understanding,” added the firm’s Partner. “Our Personal Data Team responds to this need with a cross-cutting, practical approach aligned with the international standards that directly impact companies operating in Chile today.”
With this consolidation, Magliona Abogados reaffirms its positioning as a leading law firm in law and technology, strengthening its ability to advise on personal data protection, cybersecurity, digital regulation, and the platform economy—at a key moment marked by the implementation of the new Personal Data Protection Law and the evolution of Chile’s regulatory ecosystem.
