Position

Isabelle Leroux is a Partner in Dentons’ Dubai and Paris offices.

She concentrates on intellectual property law (patents, trademarks, designs, copyrights). She advises her clients on any issues relating to IP, in particular she has extensive experience in coordinating international intellectual property litigation in Europe and worldwide. Her experience also includes advisory (licensing including know how, trade secrets and R&D, Trademark and Domain name clearances / Filing programme, IP Due Diligence / Audit, IP rights financial evaluation and tax issues, Copyright issues, Comparative advertising, labelling etc.).

Isabelle acts for many leading institutional and French as well as international clients.

Dentons’ communication, media and entertainment department assists clients such as J Walter Thompson and Coca-Cola with the whole array of contentious and non-contentious advertising issues, but also has an established presence in the television media space. Of counsel Isabelle Leroux and practice head David Masson advised on the launch of a new channel and represented a broadcaster in a dispute with a group of employees regarding the ownership rights of produced content. Masson also frequently handles contentious copyright issues in the literary publishing and music industry. Other notable clients include Al Jazeera, Sony and Flammarion.

Dentons is advising Nokia on its compliance with German and French data protection regulations concerning its recording of street-level data, and the Airbus group appointed the group to handle its longstanding software infringement and unfair competition case involving Dassault, IBM and OpenCascade. In other highlights, David Masson acts for a leading designer of invoicing software and services in several projects involving the negotiation of IT contracts and the termination of license agreements, and a major pharmaceutical client engaged the group to handle issues pertaining to the development of a mobile application. Counsel Isabelle Leroux has vast expertise in intellectual property work and domain names; she is also a key contact alongside counsel Clément Monnet.

Dentons’ intellectual property offering provides advice on the whole array of both contentious and non-contentious IP matters: in recent highlights, the team advised Polaroid on branding and enforcement strategies for its trade mark portfolio, and senior counsel Isabelle Leroux represented Coca-Cola and its French and German subsidiaries in a complex copyright and ‘free riding’ dispute arising from the broadcasting of a Christmas advertisement. Of counsel Clémence Monnet is also a key contact and continues to assist well-known advertising agency J. Walter Thompson and its clients with campaigns and direct marketing projects and practice head David Masson carries out both civil and criminal proceedings on behalf of clients in the telecoms, life sciences, luxury goods and media spaces. The firm’s impressive client roster also includes Lactalis, Allergan and Harley Davidson. Marianne Schaffner was a new arrival from Dechert LLP in 2018.

  • The new French regulation applying to national insurance contributions for managers and shareholders

    French insurance contributions on executive and shareholder remuneration (pay + dividends) have been substantially increased by the National Insurance Funding for 2013 Act, No. 2012-1404, of 17th December 2012. Until 31st December 2012, all dividends were subject to national insurance contributions on unearned income but henceforth, under Article L136-3 of the National Insurance Code, amended by Act No. 2012-1404, certain dividends   are considered as pay received by executives and shareholders and are therefore subject to the national insurance contributions on pay. The Act also abolished the ceiling on health insurance contributions payable by the self-employed and all this means that businesses must rethink the way that they have been structured until now.
