Position

James is a partner in the corporate department at Tughans. He is dual qualified to practice in both Northern Ireland and England and Wales. James has built up significant experience of advising on some of Northern Ireland’s most high profile corporate transactions including the sale of Kelman Limited to General Electric, the sale of Lagan Technologies Limited to Kana and the acquisition of Cranswick Pet Products by Westland Horticulture Limited. In 2013, James also advised ESB on the sale of the Powerteam Group to Vinci Energies Plc. James also specialises in advising on venture capital funding rounds (acting for both venture capital funds and also investee companies). In 2013, James advised Adoreboard on its funding round led by the Queens University of Belfast Innovation Fund and Qubis Limited and also advised PathXL Limited on its second round funding led by Par Equity. In recent years James has also advised on several major corporate restructurings.

Career

Partner level with Tughans having commenced training in 2000. Neil was made a director in 2010 and partner in 2011.

Tughans assists investment funds with technology-related investments and also handles transactional matters for technology companies. Highlights included acting for software company AuditComply - which provides enterprise risk management software across the engineering, manufacturing, food and logistics industries - on an inward investment made by Business Growth Fund, First Derivatives and Invest Northern Ireland. Global search engines are included in the firm’s client base. Adrian O'Connell leads the team and is known for handling non-contentious mandates; corporate partners Ciara Lagan, John McGuckian and James Donnelly often act on transactions in this area.
