Position

Matt is the Managing Partner of Walkers’ Guernsey office, where he specialises in investment funds and corporate matters.

He is a Group Partner* with more than a decade’s experience offshore, and works as part of Walkers’ Guernsey Investment Funds and corporate teams on a wide variety of matters relating to the structuring and restructuring of investment funds and high value transactions involving Guernsey company law.

He has particular expertise in respect of Guernsey Private Fund structures, and M&A deals involving regulated corporate service providers and trust companies.

Matt’s work includes advising on complex issues relating to funds, including having acted on the first conversion and migration of the cells of a Guernsey protected cell company to Malta.

Career

Prior to joining Walkers predecessor firm in Guernsey in 2009, Matt practised with the Business and Trust Law Group at a leading offshore firm in Guernsey.

Before moving to Guernsey, Matt practised tax law in New Zealand at Russell McVeagh, one of New Zealand’s largest commercial firms.

Walkers makes use of its international network to advise on cross-border funds transactions, while also assisting with changes to the funds regulatory regime in Guernsey. Leading the practice are managing partner Matt Sanders, an M&A and corporate structuring specialist, and Craig Cordle, who advises on the sale, acquisition and structuring of listed and private funds. Chris Hutley-Hurst is noted for his international tax practice, while senior counsel Jessica Robinson specialises in transactions involving trust companies. Kate Storey, acting as a consultant as of April 2023, handles insurance and funds matters.

Guernsey > Capital markets

Walkers strengthened its capital markets offering with the April 2022 arrival of practice head Craig Cordle, formerly of Ogier; his areas of expertise include M&A relating to private and listed companies, schemes of arrangement, and related regulatory issues. In addition to advising clients seeking listings on the LSE and TISE, the practice also assists clients with pre- and post-listing structural arrangements. Managing partner Matt Sanders is an M&A specialist, with additional expertise in structuring companies and funds.
