Position

Chris Hutley-Hurst is a Senior Counsel in Walkers’ Investment Funds & Corporate Practice Group in Guernsey.

Chris is a Guernsey Advocate with considerable experience as an offshore lawyer – he advises on all aspects of investment fund and corporate transactions, including investment fund formation, acquisitions, disposals and regulatory matters.

He also advises on economic substance and taxation matters, having worked as a tax lawyer while practising onshore.

Chris has experience of working in London and New York.

Career

Chris spent six years working with another leading offshore law firm in Guernsey before joining Walkers’ Guernsey office in January 2021.

Prior to that he spent a combined 12 years working in the London offices of two leading US law firms, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom (UK) LLP, and Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton LLP, spending a year in the New York office of the latter.

Walkers makes use of its international network to advise on cross-border funds transactions, while also assisting with changes to the funds regulatory regime in Guernsey. Matt Sanders and Craig Cordle lead the team in tandem, both advising on the structuring and restructuring of investment funds. Chris Hutley-Hurst, who made partner in July 2022, advises on the foundation of private equity and listed funds, while associate Angela Proctor predominantly assists funds in the real estate and energy sectors.

Walkers is adept at handling cross-border M&A and other corporate transactions, advising clients including private equity houses and fintech companies on multi-jurisdictional deals, restructuring measures and investments, in addition to providing regulatory support. Leading the practice are managing partner Matt Sanders, an M&A and corporate structuring specialist, and Craig Cordle, who advises on the sale, acquisition and structuring of listed and private funds. Chris Hutley-Hurst is noted for his international tax practice, while senior counsel Jessica Robinson specialises in transactions involving trust companies. Kate Storey, acting as a consultant as of April 2023, handles insurance and funds matters.
