Career

Charles Douglas is a partner in Bowmans’ Johannesburg M&A Practice.

He specialises in mergers and acquisitions (public and private) and equity capital markets (primary and secondary offerings as well as more general listings work).

Charles has advised on matters in various other African jurisdictions besides South Africa and also spent 18 months working in Sydney, Australia.

His experience is enhanced by his specialisation in sustainability ad ESG considerations, including impact investing, governance considerations, renewable energy and nature-based carbon solutions.

Charles has a BA from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, an LLB from the University of Cape Town and an LLM from the University of the Witwatersrand.

M&A forms the backbone of Bowmans’ transactional practice, and the ‘very responsive‘ team has an excellent track in advising financial institutions, state-owned enterprises, government departments, domestic and international companies and banks on public and private M&A mandates. Joint ventures and private equity deals are other key drivers of work for the group. Charles Douglas and Tholinhlanhla Gcabashe jointly head up the department; Ezra Davids stands out as ‘a superb corporate advisor‘, and Nanga Kwinana assists with domestic and cross-border transactions, as well as equity capital markets and corporate finance work.
