Position

Guillermo Puelles specializes in restructuring, insolvency and liquidation of corporations, mergers & acquisitions, corporate finance, global insurance practice (regulatory and handling of claims and coverage matters), finance and insurance in the aviation field and antitrust.

Career

He leads the practice of Restructuring and Insolvency as well as Insurance (regulation, claims handling and coverage matters) and also dedicates to finance, insurance and regulation in Aviation matters. He also has experience in antitrust and consumer protection matters and administrative litigation.

He assists clients in corporate finance and mergers & acquisitions deals with special focus en corporations in crisis, and private or public liquidation procedures and insolvency and restructuring proceedings. He actively participates representing major creditors and relevant debtors in the most important insolvency cases in Peru.

He was appointed by the World Bank to prepare the Peruvian Chapter of a report on insolvency and creditors’ rights for a global survey done in 2010. He is the only Peruvian member of the prestigious International Insolvency Institute.

In the insurance field, he advises both insurance and reinsurance companies in regulatory, civil and corporate matters, with special focus in the handling and dispute of claims and coverage issues, aviation insurance and reinsurance litigation, supervision and investigation proceedings by the Superintendence of Banks and Insurance (“SBS”), among others.

Guillermo has worked in the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI). He has been a professor of Civil Law at Universidad del Pacífico, and has taught Bankruptcy Law in graduate programs of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2008) and Universidad de Piura (2014). He was appointed by INDECOPI to write and publish the book “Insolvency Proceedings” as part of the 20th anniversary collection of such institution (bankruptcy regulator) and also has diverse academic publications in his fields of practice.
