Position

Juan advises on all areas of corporate and personal tax and also financial services regulation. He has broad experience in tax and regulatory matters relating to financial services, with particular focus on collective investment schemes and hedge funds. He also has considerable experience in international tax planning and property taxation. In addition, he regularly advises on the taxation aspects of employee benefits and incentive plans.

Career

Juan joined Simmons & Simmons Madrid in September 2000 from KPMG Abogados Madrid and became a managing associate in May 2008. Prior to that he worked at another law firm.

  • Failure to counter financial crime: Norwich Union Life

    In December 2007, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) imposed a fine of £1.26m on Norwich Union Life (part of the Aviva Group), one of the largest life insurance businesses in the UK with around seven million customers. The fine related to failures to take reasonable care to establish and maintain effective systems and controls for countering the risks of financial crime. The fine is the latest confirmation of the emphasis being placed on protecting clients and customers from the threat of financial crime.
