Career

João is a founding partner, he has been working in litigation for almost 30 years and leads this practice at CGM. Throughout his career, he has conducted strategic, high-value and complex litigation matters. He is experienced in delivering eloquent oral arguments before higher courts and in the preparation of briefs. He has achieved many favorable results in the ratification of foreign awards before the Superior Court of Justice and has acted in numerous corporate arbitrations before the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce – CAM-CCBC, the Arbitration and Mediation Center of the American Chamber of Commerce – Amcham and the International Chamber of Commerce – ICC.

João is a member of Comitê Brasileiro de Arbitragem – CBAr (Brazilian Arbitration Committee) and the Legal Committee of Câmara Ítalo-Brasileira de Comércio, Indústria e Agricultura – ITALCAM (Italian-Brazilian Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture). He was also rapporteur of the 6th Panel of the Ethics and Discipline Court of the Brazilian Bar Association – OAB-SP (2016-2018).
