Career

As part of the Finance practice at Rutgers & Posch, Kees advises on a broad spectrum of banking and capital markets products. He works for investors and financial institutions, credit rating agencies and companies, startups and government authorities. Kees’ experience includes structured finance, acquisition finance, property finance, bond issues, portfolio transfers and restructurings.


Before he joined Rutgers & Posch in 2013, Kees worked for Clifford Chance (including a period in Moscow), Spigt Curaçao and Linklaters. Kees studied Law in Leiden and London, and learned Russian during his time doing national military service. He regularly lectures for students and clients, and publishes in legal journals.

With a strong securitisation practice, Rutgers & Posch offers its services to a diverse client base, including fintech platforms, investment banks, Dutch and international financial institutions, and automotive corporations. Kees Westermann has longstanding experience advising financial institutions with a particular focus on mobility and real estate sectors; he co-leads the firm’s finance department alongside Vasco Hoving, who regularly advises on covered bonds, securitisation, and asset financing. The team was recently strengthened by the addition of senior associate Jamie Pellegrom, who joined from Loyens & Loeff.

Rutgers & Posch possesses strong capabilities in mid-market financing transactions. The firm advises borrowers within various sectors, including real estate, automotive, private equity, and insurance. Kees Westermann and Vasco Hoving lead the team, with experience in handling matters relating to structured finance, acquisition finance, and financial restructuring, among others. Maarten Ahsmann is another key member of the team who regularly assists on the firm’s most prominent cases.
