Career

Stefano Fornara represents parties in international arbitrations under the major institutional rules and in ad-hoc proceedings, and often acts as arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations. He also regularly represents clients before Swiss state courts in commercial as well as in employment law litigation procedures. He acts for various medium-sized and larger companies and their executive management, advising them on all legal matters related to their daily operations, in particular contractual matters and employment law. He advises private clients and HNWI on estate and succession planning and, as a public notary, he also gives advice and provides services in all notarial matters.

Stefano Fornara regularly teaches employment law at the Scuola Universitaria Professionale della Svizzera Italiana (“CAS Diritto del lavoro”) and at the Camera di commercio, dell’industria, dell’artigianto e dei servizi del Cantone Ticino. He is co-author of the second edition of the “Commentario Pratico al Codice di diritto processuale civile svizzero (CPC)”, published in September 2017, dealing with Articles 1-51 (territorial jurisdiction and recusal) and Articles 353-399 (domestic arbitration).

Before joining Walder Wyss, he practiced as attorney and public notary in a major Lugano law firm for eleven years, of which seven as managing partner.

Stefano Fornara is fluent in Italian, German, English, French and Spanish, and also speaks some Portuguese.

He is a committee member of the Gruppo Arbitrato della Svizzera Italiana and a member of the Club Espanõl del Arbitraje.

Education

Born in 1983, Stefano Fornara was educated at the University of Zurich (lic. Iur. 2007, magna cum laude). He was admitted to the Ticino Bar in 2009 and as Public Notary of the Canton Ticino in 2011. In 2012 he obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Civil Litigation at the University of St. Gallen and Lucerne.
