Labour and employment boutique Irún & Villamayor is undoubtedly the first destination for domestic and international clients seeking advice on the full range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters. The 16-strong practice encompasses a large number of sectors, with the automotive, manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries, as well as the agriculture, shipping and construction sectors making up the majority of instructions. Founding partners Joaquin Irún Grau and Félix Villamayor are well respected by clients and peers alike.

Ferrere undertakes both contentious and non-contentious work and is particularly active advising on employment contracts and social security and remuneration schemes – although migration-related work is also present in the firm’s portfolio. Recent engagements include assisting Microsoft on the adaption of corporate policies regarding bonuses, paternity & maternity and labour permits; and advising Agrichem, a Blackstone/Patria Investimentos’ affiliate, with its business set-up in Paraguay. Other notable clients include Equifax Paraguay, Colgate-Palmolive and Prosegur Paraguay. The department is directed by ‘excellent’ Perla Alderete and also includes labour litigator Mirtha dos Santos and ‘intelligent’ associate Walter Vera.

Berkemeyer Attorneys & Counselors demonstrates strength across employment contracts, compliance, the implementation of company regulations and migration matters. On the contentious side, the practice group handles workplace investigations, disciplinary hearings, conciliations, mediations and lawsuits. Key client Monsanto regularly instructs the three-strong team with labour contracts, disengagements and redundancies. The practice, which also acts for the likes of Pfizer Luxembourg, Isla Alta and Editorial Oceano, is under the leadership of senior associate Hugo Aponte. After almost 24 years at the firm, María Gloria Triguis left to establish legal professional standards organization, CAPA.

Estudio Jurídico Gross Brown can draw on a wealth of experience in advising domestic and international clients on contentious as well as non-contentious labour matters, including the termination of labour agreements and day-to-day assistance with employment and social security matters. Practice head María del Pilar Callizo is the main contact, with key support coming from associate Marlene López. Associate Miguel Díaz joined from Barriocanal & Asociados, increasing the number of practitioners to five.

Focusing on non-contentious labour and employment matters, Moreno Ruffinelli & Asociados demonstrates experience in labour contracts, terminations and labour permits, as well as compliance and due diligence. A 2017 highlight involved assisting Caja de Jubilaciones y Pensiones de la Itaipú Binacional (CAJUBI) with a legislative proposal for the establishment of an office of superintendence for retirement and pension matters. The seven-strong labour and employment team at Olmedo Abogados handles the full array of sectoral matters and is particularly adept at advising on labour contracts, hiring processes and terminations. The firm has also a strong labour litigation department. In on-going work, practice co-heads Ana Valiente and Susana Ramos continue to represent Mercoplast against claims brought by a former employee regarding alleged moral damages, compensation for a work accident and unjustified dismissal.

Peroni Sosa Tellechea Burt & Narvaja fields a comprehensive labour and employment practice with particular clout in the shipping sector, where it counts Luvialba Paraguay, Naviera Conosur and P&O Maritime among its clients.
