With more than 20 years’ experience in the market, boutique firm Irún & Villamayor enjoys an excellent reputation for labour law matters, with a wide-ranging contentious and non-contentious practice. The 16-strong team includes highly respected founding partners Joaquin Irún Grau and Félix Villamayor, and acts for companies in sectors such as construction, agriculture, manufacturing, automotive, pharmaceuticals and shipping.

Berkemeyer Attorneys & Counselors advises many domestic and international clients on labour law matters. Recent highlights include assisting Parag concerning the labour aspects of a $120m investment in the Paraguayan agribusiness sector. The team, under the leadership of María Gloria Triguis, is retained by various multinational corporations in relation to immigration matters involving executive officials.

Ferrere has a broad practice including the labour aspects of M&A transactions. Team head Marysol Estigarribia assists ThyssenKrupp in areas such as social security, labour contracts and employment terminations, and also acts for Ericsson, Interbarge, Leoni and Unilever. Other names to note are senior associates Darío Capurro, Antonella Llamas and Cindy Santacruz.

Estudio Jurídico Gross Brown fields a five-strong labour practice which assists a broad range of Paraguayan and foreign clients in contentious as well as non-contentious matters, under the leadership of María del Pilar Callizo, who is a renowned arbitrator and mediator. Clients include Petrobras Paraguay Distribución, Bancard, Banco Itaú, Caja Mutual de Cooperativistas del Paraguay, and AGB Constructora.

With a focus on non-contentious matters, Moreno Ruffinelli & Asociados’ labour practice supports its clients in relation to transaction due diligence, employment contracts, terminations, sanctions and internal rulings. Recent highlights for the six-strong team include advising Frigomerc on various labour law and social security issues, and advising multinational IT corporation Logicalis on contractual matters and human resources policy. Other clients are Bancop, Avianca and L’Acerie. Founding partner José Moreno Ruffinelli and senior associate Rocío Penayo are recommended.

The seven-strong team at Olmedo Abogados, under the leadership of name partner Gustavo Olmedo, covers the full range of labour-related services including advice on hiring processes, termination of employment, and the drafting and revision of labour contracts. On the contentious side, it represented Mercoplast in proceedings following a work accident. Ana Valiente and Susana Ramos are both praised for their experience.

Singled out for its expertise in the shipping sector, advising clients such as Fluvialba Paraguay, Naviera Conosur, and P&O Maritime, Peroni Sosa Tellechea Burt & Narvaja handles complex employment issues relating to on-board crews and vessel captains, who are subject to specific legislation. The team is co-led by Pelucia Gimenez, who returned to the firm, and Ernesto Fiore, and also acts for Agropeco, Philip Morris Paraguay and Petrolera San Antonio, covering day-to-day labour matters and litigation.

Praised for its ‘global vision of business’ and ‘quality responses’, Vouga Abogados has a comprehensive practice covering labour permits, authorisations and licences, collective bargaining agreements, and the implementation of labour regulations, acting for large national and multinational entities such as Equifax Paraguay, Sodrugestvo, Colgate-Palmolive de Paraguay, and Microsoft Corporation. Perla Alderete is recommended together with labour litigation expert Mirtha dos Santos and the ‘highly knowledgeable’ Walter Vera.
