The Government announced in a press release on 30th
August that it believes the Civil Procedure Rules (CPR), introduced as
part of the so-called Woolf reforms a little over three years ago, are
continuing to work well. The Lord Chancellor’s Department has published an
updated evaluation of the reforms in a report called “Further Findings: A
continuing evaluation of the Civil Justice Reforms”.
The report is based on various surveys
and studies carried out in the last few years, judicial statistics and
also anecdotal evidence. It follows on from an earlier report called
“Emerging Findings: An early evaluation of the Civil Justice Reforms”
published in March 2001, building on the earlier evidence and including
additional information.
