Human Resources organisation XpertHR has revealed the results of its latest research, which shows that two thirds of organisations do not have a behaviour policy in place for their work Christmas party.

After surveying a total of 111 companies, they found that the vast majority of businesses do not have a clear policy set down which delineates the acceptable standards of conduct expected from employees at the Christmas party.

This is clearly not an ideal state of affairs, especially considering the fact that employers may be indirectly liable for harm caused to employees or third parties by acts of negligence on behalf of their employees in the course of their work.

Among those who responded to the survey, 7% reported that they had encountered problems at their previous Christmas party or meal. Three respondents had to deal with the resulting situation through formal disciplinary proceedings.
