2025 is expected to be a busy year for employment law changes in Ireland. The Maternity Protection Act 2024 affords additional protection to employees who become ill while on maternity leave and prohibits NDA's in settlement agreements for discrimination claims. Construction sector wages rise from August under a new order. The Automatic Enrolment Retirement Savings Systems Act substantially changes pension law by introducing a mandatory pension scheme for certain employees. A new Employment Permit System introduces new permits for seasonal workers. Expanded gender pay gap reporting and the EU Pay Transparency Directive push for greater pay transparency.

2024 was a very busy year for employment law with significant changes introduced through legislation and case law particularly in the areas of leave, flexible working, employment status and retirement. So far it seems that 2025 is going to continue where 2024 left off with lots of interesting developments expected.
