The recent increase in the price of the pint imposed by some Dublin publicans led to a full-blown Competition Authority investigation into public house licensing. In a similar action, Opel's 'Upfront Pricing' scheme led to the Authority's first dawn raid some months ago.

The Authority has clearly marked its cards. Failure to bear the competition law dimension in mind when setting prices is hazardous.
