Earlier this week, the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) announced they were delaying the implementation of certain portions of their client focused reforms initiative until next year.

The reforms, published in October 2019 (Notice of Amendments), introduce new or amended registrant conduct requirements under National Instrument 31-103 Registration Requirements, Exemptions and Ongoing Registrant Obligations (NI 31-103) with the intention of better aligning the interests of registrants with those of clients. Amendments relating to conflicts of interest (the enhanced conflicts requirements), described in sections 18 through 25 of the Notice of Amendments and relationship disclosure information requirements were set to come into force on December 31, 2020.
