Career
Jamie joined chambers in 2017 after successful completion of his Pupillage. He practises in commercial, chancery, general civil, employment and family law.
Before coming to the Bar, Jamie spent a decade developing a small business, growing from a sole-trader start-up to a franchising company operating in cities in the Midlands and south-east. This previous career has given him strong skills in negotiation, balancing competing commercial interests, handling employment issues and franchise law. He sold the company in 2013 to come to the Bar.
Commercial Dispute Resolution
Jamie uses his business understanding to bring a robust yet pragmatic approach to commercial disputes. His first-hand experience of solving problems ranging from supplier disputes to franchisee non-compliance informs his approach to litigation and legal advice, resonating well with business clients who see in him a kindred spirit.
Because of his experience Jamie has already established himself on circuit as a ‘business-person’s barrister’ and is regularly instructed, re-instructed and recommended by commercial Solicitors and lay clients alike. He accepts instructions in the following areas:
Partnership Disputes Breach of ContractDirectors Disputes Debt RecoverySale of Goods FranchisingProfessional Negligence Insolvency
Real Estate Litigation
Jamie brought a breadth of real estate knowledge and experience to the Bar, spanning commercial property, social housing and private housing work. He worked at Eversheds LLP (as they were then) on commercial leases and the property elements of M & A deals. His social housing knowledge was gained through a 6-month pro bono placement advising social housing tenants. He is also a private Landlord, managing a portfolio of tenanted properties. This practical, first-hand experience of the issues faced by many of clients, combined with that gained since coming to the Bar gives Jamie a realistic, commercial and practical approach to dispute resolution.
Jamie accepts instructions in the following areas:
Landlord and Tenant Trusts of LandPossession Social HousingNuisance Right of WayBoundary Disputes
Traditional Chancery
Jamie’s expertise extends both to the advising in non-contentious issues and to the conduct of litigation when such matters become contentious. This includes disputes between beneficiaries or with executors over capacity, under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975 and arising out of the execution of the trusts provided for under wills.
Family
Jamie completed pupillage at Dere Street under the supervision of respected family practitioner Sarah Woolrich. He has been exposed to all aspects of family work, representing clients in ancillary relief, public and private law proceedings.
He has represented local authorities and lay clients in all stages of child-related proceedings from first application through to final hearing. His former career developed strong inter-personal skills, giving Jamie a calm and reassuring manner during the stress of family law proceedings.
Employment
Jamie gained first-hand experience of managing employment disputes running a company and developed claimant experience through pro bono work. He is keen to develop his tribunal practice acting for employers and employees.
