Career

Alejandro E. Chevalier is a dual-qualified attorney (Panama and New York). His practice focuses on representing Panamanian and international private and State entities—including those in the energy, construction, mining, ports, shipping, and telecommunications sectors—in complex business disputes. He specializes in matters involving the resolution of international commercial and investment disputes, as well as litigation and arbitration proceedings under Panamanian law before the country’s arbitration centers and judicial bodies. In addition to his expertise in international disputes, Mr. Chevalier has substantial experience in transactions related to government procurement, infrastructure and energy projects, and contracts with multi-jurisdictional legal and commercial implications across Latin America.

Before establishing his legal practice in Panama, Mr. Chevalier served as an attorney in the International Litigation & Arbitration Department of Akerman LLP (Miami, Florida). During this time, he represented Latin American and European investors, multinational corporations, and State agencies in a wide range of cross-border disputes, including international commercial and investment arbitration proceedings conducted under the rules of the ICC, UNCITRAL, FINRA, and the ICDR, the international division of the AAA. He also advised clients on enforcement and setting-aside proceedings of arbitral awards, as well as judgment domestication disputes before U.S. federal courts.

Prior to joining Akerman LLP, Mr. Chevalier was a Legal Intern in the International Arbitration Group of Hogan Lovells, while concurrently pursuing an LL.M. in International Arbitration at the University of Miami School of Law, where he was also a member of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team. Previously, he obtained an LL.M. from New York University (NYU) School of Law and an Advanced Professional Certificate in Law and Business from the NYU Stern School of Business. In addition, Mr. Chevalier holds an Executive MBA from the INCAE Business School (2025).

Education

INCAE Business School. Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) - April 2024 – August 2025. Mr. Chevalier obtained an Executive MBA at INCAE Business School, the top-ranked EMBA program in Latin America according to the Financial Times. The part-time modular program combined in-person modules in Panama and Costa Rica with international residencies in the United States, Europe, and Asia, developed in collaboration with Babson College, ESADE Business School, and the National University of Singapore. The curriculum emphasized strategic leadership, global business ecosystems, and executive decision-making.

University of Miami School of Law. Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Arbitration - 2018 – 2019. Awarded the International Arbitration Institute Scholarship. Participated in the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot and specialized in international commercial and investment arbitration proceedings.

New York University School of Law. Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Law - 2017 – 2018. Editor of the NYU Journal of Legislation and Public Policy and LL.M. Representative of the Law & Business Association. Coursework included corporate governance, international business transactions, and comparative law.

New York University Stern School of Business. Advanced Professional Certificate in Law and Business (APCLB) - 2017 – 2018. Recipient of the John L. Vogelstein Scholarship. Alejandro is guided by a strong sense of discipline, intellectual curiosity, and purpose. Colleagues often describe him as methodical yet adaptable—a quality shaped by his exposure to diverse legal cultures and his background in high-performance sports. Having lived in New York, Miami, Madrid, and Nice, he brings a global outlook and cross-cultural awareness to his work. A former national team athlete in both taekwondo and bowling, he credits these experiences with strengthening his perseverance, focus, and respect for teamwork. Leisure

Outside of his legal practice, Alejandro enjoys exploring contemporary art, architecture, and cultural history during his travels. He is passionate about hiking, CrossFit, padel, and photography, as well as discovering diverse culinary traditions around the world. A second-degree black belt in taekwondo and former national team member in both taekwondo and bowling, he maintains an active lifestyle rooted in discipline and balance. He also supports dance and performing arts initiatives led by his wife, reflecting his appreciation for creativity, movement, and discipline as universal forms of expression.
