Real estate Tier 3

The unwinding of the 2018 merger which produced Jara del Favero & Ried Fabres saw the return to the market of its two constituent firms, Ried Fabres and Jara del Favero Abogados. The latter's real estate project-focused practice assists with planning, financing, title revision, land purchasing and building permits. It also advises on administrative procedures, construction works, and sales and leases. Experienced partner Sven Herlin leads the firm's real estate (and M&A) department.

Practice head(s):

Jara del Favero’s team is very solid in all areas of real estate business and provides sound recommendations. The truth is that the lawyers provide a highly prepared professional service, with a tremendous willingness to collaborate and a sense of urgency that is vital in this area.

Great for their knowledge and expertise in real estate law, which results in our being able to trust in them 100%. Response times also play a fundamental role, as well as their confidence in being able to delegate complex matters to associates.

Sven Herlin provides tremendous support when we assert our real estate rights.

Banking and finance Tier 4

Jara del Favero & Ried Fabres (the result of a 2018 merger between Jara del Favero Abogados and Ried Fabres), is now known as Jara Del Favero Abogados, following the unwinding of the association and the departure of former name partners Cristián Fabres and José Miguel Ried to re-establish Ried Fabres in 2020. The practice retains extensive experience in advising company clients on finance matters and Felipe Ovalle, in particular, is highly regarded for his assistance with the financing of businesses, M&A, infrastructure and concessions.

Corporate and M&A Tier 4

Jara del Favero Abogados has reverted to its former independent status following the unwinding of its 2018 merger with Ried Fabres in early 2020. The practice group nevertheless remains 19-strong and fields experienced corporate partners with expertise across a range of industry sectors and who are active in M&A transactions that are both local and cross-border. Practice co-heads Sven Herlin (who is particularly active in the real estate, mining, industrial, retail and service sectors); Felipe Ovalle (corporate finance and advisory, and M&A, notably in the infrastructure, retail and mining sectors); Manuel Jiménez (commercial law, corporate M&A and advisory, especially in the pharmaceutical sector); and Andrea Abascal (regulatory matters, life sciences and competition), who made partner in February 2020, are the principal advisers. Experienced associates Marina Junge and Juan Pablo González, along with younger colleague Julio Trucco, provide key associate support.

A very good team, with a good level of communication and participation. I evaluate the performance of the team very favourably.

Fantastic for personalised attention and prompt responses.

It differs in its high level of involvement and commitment to clients’ requirements.

The outstanding partner is Sven Herlin.

Tax Tier 4

The unwinding of its 2018 tie-up with Ried Fabres saw Jara del Favero Abogados revert to its former independent status in early 2020. The firm's small team punches above its weight due to the expertise of veteran tax specialist and practice head Rafael Valdivieso, who focuses on commercial and tax law, M&A and tax structuring for individuals, businesses and economic groups; and the design and implementation of reorganizations. The team also handles tax planning, compliance and disputes; and was further strengthened in November 2019, by the arrival of Martín Hudson who joined as a senior associate from Barros & Errázuriz.

The former, long-known for its role in the mining sector, has energy sector deal experience that includes energy bidding rounds, energy purchase agreements, and drilling and EPC contracts. Mid-2019 hire Marcelo Mardones – a former head of legal at the Ministry of Energy – leads the practice which was further strengthened with the incorporation of Martín Esser, who has both energy and environmental expertise, from Essbio. Partner-level support is provided by Felipe Ovalle.
