The 'first-class' projects-focused practice is experienced in planning, financing, title opinions, land purchases, and permits and administrative procedures, along with construction, sales contracts and leases; the group also advises on related M&A, IP and tax law aspects. The eight-strong banking and finance practice is experienced in corporate finance and structuring transactions, both at local and international levels. The team is co-led by Felipe Ovalle, who is recommended for mining-related finance transactions; Sven Herlin, primarily financings for real estate projects and technology companies; and corporate finance specialist Alvaro Caviedes. Appointed associate practice director in May 2020, Christian Schiessler provides key second line support on financing, capital markets and corporate matters. Since publication, Schiessler has been raised to the partnership, effective July 2022.

Jara del Favero Abogados recently reverted to its former independent status, following the unwinding of its 2018 merger with Ried Fabres in early 2020. The sizeable 20-strong group comprises partners and associates with extensive experience in advising companies on corporate matters and M&A, including local and cross-border deals. The principal advisers are commercial and corporate law specialist Sven Herlin; capital markets expert Alvaro Caviedes; Felipe Ovalle (commercial and civil law, securities, M&A, project finance and infrastructure); and Manuel Jiménez, who has notable pharmaceutical sector experience. A capable second line of advisers includes Andrea Abascal (a partner as of February 2020), and experienced associates Marina Junge (who has over a decade at the firm) and Julio Trucco, who was appointed real estate practice director in January 2021. The firm currently advises national and international clients engaging in the most varied of businesses, such as financial institutions, utilities, mining, infrastructure, foods, forestry, agriculture, wine making, energy, environment, technology, tourism and the government.

Main areas of practice
Environment: the firm provides legal assistance regarding environmental regulations and the use and management of natural resources, counseling clients on the environmental impact assessment of investment projects, on the enforcement of strong environmental regulations and on renewable and non-renewable natural resources.

Mining and water law: the firm has expertise in assisting clients in all stages of mining projects, starting with mineral exploration and exploitation up to obtaining respective concessions, as well as in the development, financing and commercial operation of the project, and protection of mining concessions. Its lawyers have broad experience in providing advice to clients on all aspects of water law, such as the establishment of water rights, the obtainment of permits and authorizations according to the water code.

Finance: the firm assists clients on preparing and executing loan agreements, project finance agreements, banking and all other related finance agreements.
