Competition and antitrust Tier 2
Estudio Olaechea has a solid practice advising on matters ranging from leniency proceedings and antitrust disputes to everyday compliance advice. The versatile Martín Serkovic 'always provides efficient solutions' and leads a team of four associates, of whom Jean Francois Deville is particularly experienced. In a case currently awaiting a decision from the Supreme Court, the pair are advising cleaning products-multinational, Clorox, regarding alleged vertical collusive practices with supplier Quimpac. The 'first class lawyers' at Estudio Olaechea provide a very comprehensive real estate offering to some big-name clients, including Pfizer (which the team is advising on its headquarters' $3m lease), W Capital and Michelin. Current matters include ongoing advise to Akko Group on post-completion issues following the construction of its $65m business centre, completed in 2018. Estudio Olaechea provides 'innovative solutions from many perspectives' and advises an impressive array of international financial blue-chips, such as BlackRock, Deutsche Bank, UBS and Standard Chartered (a recent gain), on regulatory matters. On the transactional front, the firm acted for a domestic asset management company as arranger of a $300m local bond issue in the mining sector, advice led by practice co-head Carlo Viacava. Fellow co-head Jesús Matos specialises in equipment financings, primarily for well-known international manufacturing companies. Transactions included working alongside Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP as Peruvian counsel to Excellence Logging Limited (EXLOG) on its $50m acquisition of the surface data logging business of Weatherford International, and acting for plastic company Ravago on its $15m acquisition of plastic resins company Dispercol. Estudio Olaechea's José Antonio Honda is well-versed in environmental law, particularly in relation to the environmental aspects of corporate transactions and infrastructure projects within the mining, energy and ports sectors. Maersk Group subsidiary APM Terminals Callao - the concessionaire of Peru's main port, Terminal Norte Multipropósito (TNM) - is a key practice client; the team has advised it on multiple issues during the past year, including advice on obtaining and implementing the necessary environmental authorisations for the refurbishment of TNM’s Pier Seven. One of the Estudio Olaechea's senior partners, José Antonio Honda is an experienced mining professional and heads the firm's energy and mining practice, with support from a small group of associates that includes senior associate Stephanie Límaco who arrived from Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP in 2018. In addition to advising some well-known mining companies, the team typically acts for suppliers, such as Geochem International (a distributor of geochemical products used by the mining industry), which the firm recently advised on restructuring its operations in Peru. Other work includes advising Imerys Minerales Peru, which holds mining concessions in southern Peru, on negotiations with the rural community which owns the land in which the concessions are located.
