Main Areas of Practice:
Corporate + Transactions: Nutter attorneys advise a broad spectrum of clients along the many milestones in a company’s life cycle, including entity formation, commercial expansion, succession planning and strategic combinations or buyouts. Our diverse client base ranges from emerging companies to family-owned and other privately held companies to major publicly held corporations.
Intellectual Property: IP assets are often the cornerstone to a client’s success—and survival. The Intellectual Property attorneys at Nutter help clients protect, enhance, leverage, or capitalize on those assets to change the world, especially in life sciences and technology. It is a big reason why we have a passion for doing what we do. Because of our commitment to providing value for the money invested in our services, we work to understand every client’s business and how our efforts as legal counselors and advocates can help that business.
Litigation: Our litigators enjoy a national reputation based on their superior skills both in and out of the courtroom. We aggressively and effectively represent clients from pre-litigation counseling through the litigation process, including discovery, trial, and appeal, as well as alternative dispute resolution where appropriate. As a litigation law firm, we pride ourselves in achieving positive outcomes for our clients through sound strategy, intense preparation, and steadfast advocacy.
Real Estate: The firm’s robust commercial real estate law practice provides expertise, both nationally and regionally, on the wide range of legal challenges surrounding all types of real estate, including the most complex transactions and developments. As real estate attorneys, we have broad experience covering real estate transactional and finance work, as well as related entitlement, land use, and environmental matters. Our value-add is that we see how all the pieces of complex matters fit together, thereby providing a tremendous benefit to our clients.
Labor, Employment + Benefits: Nutter was one of the first major Boston law firms to establish a traditional labor practice. As a leader in the field, we advise many employers on a wide range of labor-management issues. Our attorneys represent both private and public sector labor clients, including educational institutions, health care providers, transportation companies, retail operations, manufacturers, energy providers, and media operations.
Tax: Tax attorneys at Nutter provide a full range of income tax, estate tax, employee benefits, and tax dispute services to a broad array of domestic and multi-national corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, tax-exempt organizations, and individuals. We ensure that all of the firm’s clients receive timely and creative advice and solutions that allow them to plan for and control the tax consequences of their business and investment transactions.
Private Client Law Services: Our Private Client Law Services team provides individualized, practical advice and legal counseling on a wide variety of issues. Our clients include high net worth individuals and families, entrepreneurs, private business owners, and executives, among others. Clients turn to our private client attorneys to advise on, prepare, and implement all aspects of estate planning, estate administration, and trust administration. Our cross-disciplinary team works closely with our clients and their advisors to develop a unique and personal approach to meet each client’s goals and objectives.
Pro Bono
Our co-founder, Louis Brandeis, is often credited as the first prominent attorney to provide legal services in the public interest without a fee. We continue that distinguished tradition through partnerships with leading pro bono organizations, such as Project Citizenship, Volunteer Lawyers Project, Small Business Strong, Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), and more.
