Career
Joseph Perry’s practices focuses on white collar criminal defense, securities enforcement, internal investigations and complex civil matters. Joe represents companies and individuals in cases involving fraud and corruption before various branches of the U.S. Department of Justice, the New York Attorney General and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. On the regulatory front, Joe defends his clients in enforcement proceedings before the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. In particular, Joe’s SEC’s practice involves all areas of the securities laws, including insider trading, accounting issues, disclosure concerns and whistleblower allegations.
Joe began his legal career as an Assistant District Attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office where he served for nearly five years. During Joe’s tenure as a prosecutor, he tried numerous cases to verdict and conducted a significant number of grand jury investigations. Prior to joining Baker Botts, Joe clerked for the Honorable Carmen Ciparick, Senior Associate Judge of the New York Court of Appeals, New York State’s highest appellate court. Joseph advised Judge Ciparick on a variety of complex criminal and civil matters and assisted in the drafting of judicial opinions.
