The firm: Established in 1989, S.S. Rana & Co. is a premier intellectual property and corporate law firm having a pan-Indian presence. It is one of the very few IP firms registered as ‘Advocate-on-Record’ (AOR) with the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India which equips it to represent clients’ rights from the lower courts to the Apex court.

For more than two and a half decades the firm has been facilitating its clients in protecting, enforcing, defending and monetising their intellectual property rights in India and the world over. The firm’s long-standing relationship with many fortune 500 companies and several esteemed international and national corporations speaks laurels of its diligent and strategic legal services. The senior partners of the firm have over four decades of litigation experience and the partners and associates of the firm have represented clients at all levels of the judicial hierarchy.

Areas of practice : The firm also has an excellent corporate practice which continues to be a powerhouse of high value, complex corporate advisory matters. The team has expertise and in-depth knowledge in all areas of corporate practice which is combined with an astute understanding of the business and commercial agreements. The practice includes legal assistance to domestic and international clients across industries offering legal services and consultation on contracts and agreements, franchising and licensing, advertising, labelling and packaging, food, consumer, competition, cyber, environment, media and entertainment, labour, E-commerce, IT, foreign trade and custom, MSME registration, real estate, JV agreements, foreign direct investment, etc.

ISO certification: having embraced the technological advancements and changes in legal practices over the years, the firm is one of the select few law firms in the country to be awarded the ISO 27001: 2013 certification. It has significantly invested in IT systems for systemic file management and retrieval of client information while maintaining the highest degree of data security and confidentiality.

Pro bono work: the firm has a demonstrated record of pro bono representation – a record based on the belief that there is more to its professional mandate than advocacy only for the successful section of the society. Its commitment to providing a voice for the underprivileged is demonstrated by pro bono contributions that range from cases on behalf of individuals who lack the means to secure basic necessities of legal representation.

Corporate social responsibility: IP4kids is the firm’s CSR initiative and is a sensitisation programme to spread awareness about intellectual property rights amongst the younger generation. Its workshops focus on interactions with students, teachers and young grassroots innovators etc. IP4kids received support from WIPO in the form of its publications distribution at the Innovation Festival 2016 organised by National Science Centre (NSC) at New Delhi. Partners and associates at the firm also actively participate at IP sensitisation seminars and conferences organised by organisations such as MSSI (Ministry of Small Scale Industries), PFC (Patent Facilitating Centre), TIFAC, FICCI, CII, WIPO and several educational institute, colleges and universities.

Vidya Darshan Rana Charitable Trust is a registered, non-profit charitable trust set up by the partners of the firm in 2009 to extend financial and non-financial support to grassroot programmes, helping the disadvantaged become self-reliant, thereby enabling them to lead a life of dignity. The trusts, amongst others, works in the areas of education, health, sports and community development.
