Donatas Petrauskas, Partner

Partner Donatas Petrauskas of Law firm Constat explains how the firm is adapting to clients’ changing needs.

What do you see as the main points that differentiate law firm Constat from your competitors?

I think that our main driving force and difference form our competitors is our eagerness and hunger for larger legal services market share. Even though our team consist of professionals, who have been practicing law for a long time, as a cohesive unit we are working only for three years. In this short period, we managed to grow our Law firm’s employees from 4 people to over 30. I think that this shows that our strategy is successful and clients are happy with the services they are provided with. Also, even though our law company is orientated towards business consulting, we have a very strong criminal defense team, as we have noticed that there is a need for specialists, who could help in criminal cases.

Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?

I think that various fields related to Information technology (IT) will definitely be growing and that includes startups related to IT, Fintech, Artificial intelligence projects etc. Also, issues related to Energy market (which includes renewable energy) and military defense will be on a rise, as more and more problems will have to be resolved in this field.

What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?

It is no secret that one of the main worries that clients have is the quality, accountability and pricing of the legal services they are receiving. Know these issues, first of all we are always very flexible with our pricing and we listed to our client’s needs, also we have implemented IT solutions, which allow us to ensure a very clear and accurate billing process and keep track of any performed tasks. This not only ensures that the tasks are performed on time, but allows our lawyers to check the quality of work.

Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?

Yes, of course. Most likely we have all seen the change of usual interaction traditions in most fields of business due to Covid. Remote meetings are now a lot more common than before and this allows to save time not only for clients but for lawyers too. Also, we are starting to see Artificial intelligence products coming in to the legal services market and I am sure that they will be used as great tool to help lawyers in providing the services to clients more efficiently and quicker.

Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?

We have a client, who is a real estate developer, and he was looking for possible ways to expand and take his business to the next level. Our law firm analyzed his business, helped to create a whole new way to finance his business, and prepared all needed documentation and this allowed him to grow his business exponentially. Interestingly enough, we noticed that his competitors started copying his business model, as it was completely new in our real estate market, and it was proven to be very effective.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?

I think it is very important to stay as a reliable partner to your client. This can be done in couple of ways, first of all you need to provide services in a timely manner and good quality. The trust you build with the client allows him to leave a part of the problems or issues he usually has to take care by himself to the law firm, his employees get to know the lawyers and they can communicate in more efficient way. Second of all working closely with the client allows you to get a sense of his needs and get a deeper professional knowledge and specialization in order to provide best quality services. This mutual cooperation allows to grow for both business – law firm and the client. Therefore, our goal for the next three years is to find a good corelation between growing our number of professionals and getting deeper knowledge of our current client’s business, to mentor them, how to grow their business, while attracting new clients. This would ensure a stable mutual growth of our law firm and our current/future clients, which would benefit all parties.
