Energy and natural resources > Electricity and hydrocarbon Tier 2

The division of Cubillos Evans Abogados in late 2021, saw the new Grupo Evans retain a major energy law practice under the joint leadership of Eugenio Evans , José Miguel Hernández  and Cristóbal Illanes , who combine longstanding expertise in the regulatory and energy aspects of substantial project developments to provide a full spectrum offering in the sector. The team, which distinguishes itself due to the presence of engineers at all levels (partner, director and associate), is particularly active in the country’s government-led decarbonisation objectives, as well as having a reputation for big-ticket wind, solar, hydro and power sector-related acquisitions and sales. Furthermore, with the March-2022 incorporation of Sebastián Yunge  (formerly a longstanding partner at Guerrero Olivos), it can also now address the corporate, transactional and financing aspects of projects in the sector. On the regulatory side, the group is active in power generation, transmission and supply matters, along with related community relations work. At senior associate level, Rafael Fernández  leads the firm’s electricity concessions work, and Elías Soto  is an energy and natural resources litigator. Diego Valenzuela moved to BACS Abogados as counsel in September 2021.

Chile > Environment Tier 2

One of the firms emerging from the dissolution of Cubillos Evans Abogados in late 2021, Grupo Evans retains a six-strong environmental law practice that has longstanding experience in the regulatory and environmental aspects of major projects in Chile. The group, co-led by environmental, regulatory and energy specialist Fernando Molina and engineer Aurelio de Diego, also routinely undertakes local community liaison to prevent environmental and social conflicts. Providing key support, of counsels Yordana Mehsen Rojas and Gianfranco Riaglianti (who joined from Chile’s Environment Ministry in August 2021), advise on project development-related environmental issues, and sustainability and waste management issues, respectively; and senior associate Nicolás Galli (a recent hire from Pfeffer & Asociados) focuses on regulatory and contentious administrative matters. Former associate Angeles Mas recently moved into the public sector at the Tercer Tribunal Ambiental.
