The sizeable energy and green hydrogen team at Grupo Evans comprises experts in large-scale power generation infrastructure projects, energy transmission lines, battery energy storage systems (BESS), water desalination plants, aqueducts and ports. The 22-strong practice also covers new sectors such as hydrogen, green ammonia and green methanol plants; and it assists with power generation and transmission company-related due diligence, energy compliance, acquisitions, and financings and refinancings. The practice’s principal figures are Eugenio Evans, whose workload covers high-stakes projects, regulatory matters and litigation before Chile’s regulators; José Miguel Hernández, whose extensive experience includes advising bidding consortia on energy sector-related infrastructure transactions; Cristóbal Illanes, an expert on wind, solar and hydro developments, as well as conventional power and utilities regulatory work; and Rafael Fernández, who advises on the regulatory aspects of natural resources and energy mandates. At associate level, senior Gustavo Benítez handles territorial issues and easements, along with negotiations with landowners; Carolina Seeger advises companies on energy, natural resources, environmental issues and corporate matters; and litigation and arbitration department director Elías Soto routinely acts in natural resources litigation. Of further note, during 2024 the firm established Enlace Ingeniería, a company that is co-led by Illanes and Fernández (alongside two engineers), and specialises in the design and construction of power transmission projects.
