Sucharita Basu is a Partner at AQUILAW, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Sucharita has over 24 years of experience in General Corporate, Foreign Exchange, Infrastructure, Real Estate, Government Affairs and Public Policy and Inheritance and Trusts. She advises a wide range of Indian and multinational clients in various sectors. Prior to AQUILAW, Sucharita was an Associate Partner with Khaitan & Co. She is also the Standing Counsel on behalf of the West Bengal before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. Sucharita is the Chairman of CII West Bengal, State Council and also represents the Firm in CII, Eastern Region Council and in BCCI, Managing Committee. She also serves as an independent director on the boards of Himadri Credit & Finance Limited and Tarsons Products Limited. She is also a member of the International Bar Association – India Working Group.

General Corporate Advisory: Legal advice on commercial and corporate laws, FDI and ODI, corporate restructurings.

Mergers & Acquisitions: Due diligence, documentation involving listed and unlisted companies, advice and documentation, joint venture and licensing, shareholder agreements and arrangements, technology transfers, import of plant and equipment, mergers through Courts etc.

Commercial Contracts & Data Privacy: Licensing, transfer of technology, trade agreements, etc, and general corporate law advisory; advisory on data privacy and governance.

Financing: Advice and documentation relating to corporate financing, debt issues, project financing, creation of security etc. and external commercial borrowings.

Securities Law: Advice and documentation relating to IPOs, Rights Issues, QIPs, NCDs, GDR and FCCB issues.

Real Estate: Structuring of deals, legal due diligence of property, drafting/vetting transfer documents such as conveyance deeds, leases, license agreements, trust deeds, trust laws etc, rendering advice on land development agreements, advisory on financing & investments, RERA.

Infrastructure: Advice and documentation of infrastructure projects on PPP mode, legal structuring, contracts, laws & policies on behalf of government, transaction advisor and project proponent.

International Trade Laws: Advice and interpretation of international trade agreements, policies and advisory on applicability of the same to corporates for planning their global operational optimization and expansion and governments for considering the same for their policies, planning etc.

Policy: Advising and assisting in drafting of policies for corporates and governments.

Testamentary Advice: Advice on succession planning, probates, etc.
