The firm: Assegaf Hamzah & Partners is a full-service law firm that was founded by Fikri Assegaf and Chandra Hamzah in 2001. Since then, it has grown rapidly, gaining a reputation for innovation, commercial acumen and for putting clients at the forefront of all that it does. Currently with 19 partners and 100 associates, all of its members have extensive experience representing blue-chip corporate clients, high-net-worth individuals, government institutions and major public enterprises.
In early 2014, the firm entered into a strategic alliance with Rajah & Tann, a Singapore-based law firm that is now the largest in Southeast Asia, to establish a common platform that includes offices or affiliates in Singapore, China, Thailand, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia and Myanmar, as well as regional desks focusing on Japan and South Asia. The tie-up significantly enhances the firm’s capacity to provide top-class cross-border legal services and affords clients access to an arsenal of more than 600 lawyers across the region.
Alongside its partnership with Rajah & Tann, the firm continues to work closely with a range of highly regarded domestic and international law firms on both Indonesian and overseas mandates so as to allow it to draw on international expertise and best practice across all leading jurisdictions. Rendering a full suite of legal and advisory services in Indonesian, English, Malay, Mandarin and Japanese, its lawyers pay particular attention to international legal developments and how these are likely to impact on Indonesia and clients’ interests.
Since its tie-up with Rajah & Tann, the firm’s growth has continued apace. In October 2013, it merged with boutique competition practice Rizkiyana & Iswanto, making it an Indonesian market leader in competition law. Then, in early 2016, it opened its new Surabaya office as part of its ongoing strategy to bring international quality legal services to major commercial and industrial centers across the country. Now with almost 120 lawyers, it is one of the few Indonesian law firms with the depth and breadth of expertise and experience to handle the most complex domestic and international deals.
