Banking and finance Tier 2
TLT is particularly experienced in acting for lenders, although it has recently expanded its borrower-side client base to include a number of major local and UK-wide companies. The team focuses on complex bilateral financings and financing for large projects, as well as specialist areas such as invoicing and asset finance. Richard Houliston, who has expertise in secured lending and financial services regulation, leads the practice jointly with 'impressive' energy finance specialist Anna Vangrove.
Dispute resolution Tier 2
TLT is noted for its expertise in banking litigation, counting a number of major financial institutions among its clients, and is growing its practice in a range of other areas, including insolvency, property litigation, defamation and commercial disputes. The 'very engaging and proactive' Katharine Kimber leads the team; Andrew Ryan specialises in contentious planning and environmental matters; and Fergal Maguire, who joined from Cleaver Fulton Rankin, has particular expertise in professional negligence and partnership disputes.
Energy Tier 2
TLT is particularly active in the renewables market, with expertise in advising on the development, acquisition, funding and disposal of clean energy generation projects, including onshore and offshore wind, solar and biomass projects. The team acts for a range of utilities, developers, funders and investors. The practice is led by Andrew Ryan, who stands out for his 'knowledge, responsiveness and flexibility', while Kevin Murphy handles the real estate aspects of energy projects. Planning and environment Tier 2
TLT has 'particularly good knowledge of domestic and European environmental law and waste law'; the team advises on planning applications and environmental impact assessments relating to major developments, and represents clients in judicial review proceedings and planning appeals. The renewable energy sector is a particular focus, with the team advising on energy-from-waste, wind and anaerobic digestion projects, but recent instructions have included advising on retail, housing and student accommodation developments. Andrew Ryan leads the practice.
Commercial property Tier 3
TLT stands out for its 'attention to detail and personal touch' and 'partner involvement'. The team acts for major local developers on site acquisitions for commercial and particularly residential developments; other areas of expertise include the retail, clean energy and public sectors. Practice head Judith Allen is noted for her expertise in property finance, while Kevin Murphy specialises in energy sector transactions.
Corporate and M&A Tier 3
TLT's newly formed corporate practice has a good reputation in the private equity and venture capital space, as well as for advising clients in the renewable energy sector on fundraises and M&A transactions. The team's fast-growing client base also includes retail, leisure and digital companies. Andrew Jennings, who moved from Arthur Cox Belfast, leads the team; he is noted for his experience in international transactions. Jennings was joined by associate Grant Edwards from Tughans.
