Career

Regina Derkintytė-Kaupienė is widely recognised as Lithuania’s leading maritime law expert and is the only practitioner in the transport sector to be listed in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame. With over two decades of legal practice, she brings unparalleled expertise in shipping, transport, litigation, and arbitration.

Having started her career in 2000, Regina built her reputation through senior roles in prominent Lithuanian and international law firms and corporations, including Sorainen, DFDS LISCO, and Teo LT. She founded the law firm AVERUS in 2010, where she continues to advise major Lithuanian and international clients—ranging from shipping companies and banks to insurers and industry associations—on ship arrest, sale and mortgage of vessels, cargo claims, and broader transport law issues.

A seasoned arbitrator at the Vilnius Court of Commercial Arbitration and co-author of Lithuania’s only textbook on international maritime law, Regina is also a sought-after speaker at legal and industry forums. In addition to her legal qualifications, she holds degrees in engineering economics and business management, which positions her as a strategic advisor in complex restructuring, governance, and business model decisions.

Her leadership extends beyond legal practice—she currently serves as Vice President of the Klaipeda Industrialists Association and Deputy Chairwoman of the Board at AB Klaipedos vanduo. Regina has been honoured with the Bronze Star by the Klaipėda Chamber of Commerce and the Knight of the Trade badge by the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists.
