The team surrounding Jan Hegemann also advises publishing companies on copyright and data protection law and was bolstered with the promotion of Felix Laurin Stang to associate partner.
‘I have experienced the firm Raue as extraordinarily strong media law practice, which works extremely client-oriented and stands for a strong media law and a strong, aggressive journalism in Germany. The cooperation with the firm is the best I have ever experienced with media lawyers in Germany. The colleagues are furthermore very flexible, always available and passionate about their job.‘
‘Jan Hegemann is the best media lawyer I have ever worked with. He has enormous legal expertise, which spans decades. He uses this for clever, aggressive, client-friendly assessments of cases brought to him and so far has been able to advise on and assist extraordinarily well with all of our contentious matters.‘
Energy Tier 2
Raue's team stands out for its regulatory expertise and has many years of experience in handling complaints proceedings before the Federal Network Agency, but it is also well versed in antitrust and public procurement matters, including power and gas concession proceedings. Christian von Hammerstein heads the team, which includes Friedemann Eberspächer, who made partner in January 2019. Eberspächer specialises in energy sector corporate, M&A and financing work.

‘Incomparable direct and targeted advice! Problems are recognised immediately and discussed and evaluated in detail.’
Venture capital Tier 2
The team at Raue puts significant emphasis on advising players from the Berlin start-up scene and has recently been particularly active in financing rounds, while investors and start-ups also receive assistance with exits and strategic partnerships. Andreas Nelle heads the practice.
The commercial administrative law practice at Raue is particularly strong in the media sector, where it represents media companies and journalists, but also defends ministries and institutions against information claims according to the Freedom of Information Act. In addition, the group represents numerous industry and commerce chambers in various administrative matters. Wolfram Hertel heads the practice, which continues to grow organically.
‘Phenomenal standard, very high service level, very good value for money particularly in comparison to big Anglo-American firms.‘
Healthcare and life sciences Tier 3
Raue significantly expanded its regulatory practice with the arrival of health law expert Katharina Wodarz from McDermott Will & Emery Rechtsanwälte Steuerberater LLP in January 2019. As well as hospital planning and hospital financing law matters and issues pertaining to cooperation agreements and the legislation regarding panel physicians, which are frequently handled by Maren Bedau and practice head Wolfgang Kuhla, the team also advises on pharmaceutical and pharmacy law and has the necessary experience to provide regulatory support for M&A transactions.
‘Always available, friendly and on schedule.’
‘Highly competent team, well organised and coordinated internally. Cooperation runs smoothly and with great expertise.’
‘Wolfgang Kuhla is able to pick up any contract or discussion partner in any situation and to achieve an agreement or at least an understanding of the respective situation.’
‘Maren Bedau is a highly competent contact person in contract doctor law, who can also provide excellent information unprepared for all relevant questions.’
‘Katharina Wodarz is very committed with maximum specialist knowledge and an excellent network with everyone involved. She always thinks about the respective business model.’
Telecoms Tier 3
Raue focuses on fee regulation issues; an area of particular expertise for practice head Kornelius Kleinlein. The team is part of the firm's media and telecommunications offering and therefore frequently handles matters at the intersection with telecommunication, antitrust and civil law. With the arrival of Michael Bergmann from Noerr in September 2018, the team gained an experienced telecoms sector antitrust lawyer.
Planning and environment Tier 4
Raue's environmental and planning law practice advises on purely non-contentious matters, for instance project developers on the implementation of housing projects, as well as litigious matters. Core competencies of Wolfram Hertel's team include immission control, construction and water law among others matters.
‘Raue is unique in Berlin. The group offers expertise for many real estate-related issues and delivers this in an unagitated, precise and very valuable manner.‘
‘Wolfram Hertel – very balanced and realistic in assessing enforceable rights, resource-saving working, always committed and winning, even in conflict with the opposite party.‘
Public procurement Tier 4
Under the leadership of Bettina Tugendreich, Raue is active on contracting as well as on bidding side. The advice spectrum ranges from advice on award procedures, pan-European tender proceedings for concessions and planning services and awarding of services to review procedures. The team is also active in the infrastructure sector, particularly in the transport, energy and health industries.
‘Excellent manners and communication skills as well as expertise, also across borders (regionally and globally).‘
‘Bettina Tugendreich has very good industry and product knowledge; technical expertise; and an international team of contacts.‘
Real estate Tier 4
With a strong focus on Berlin, Raue's real estate practice lays its focus on the health sector, both with regards to object-related transactions as well as to contractual adjustments pertaining to the transfer of undertakings. In this context, Cornelia Gorn is the key contact. The group also advises in the asset classes logistics and residential, particularly in relation to project developments. Here, the team has particular strength with regards to the transfer of conversions sites out of intensive industrial use. The team around Klaus Goecke frequently acts either in agreement with or on behalf of the public authorities, for instance on the design of amendment agreements.
‘Raue is composed of experts in various specialised fields, who stand out for their experience and promptness and thereby explain significant and relevant aspects of an investment opportunity as easy as possible. They highlight all important potential risks of a transaction, while evaluating them and proposing solutions at the same time. Therefore, transactions can be completed quickly and neatly, which is enormously important in the current market.‘
‘In addition to her technical expertise and experience, Dr Cornelia Gorn has a high degree of empathy for her respective negotiation partners and is therefore perceived as very pleasant and modest. At the same time, Ms Gorn always keeps an eye on her client’s interests and knows how to enforce these. Due to this mix, brilliant results are achieved. Contrary to her competitors, Dr Gorn doesn’t try to impress her clients or negotiation partners, but exclusively focuses on the goal, namely the successful completion of a transaction.‘
Employment Tier 6
Raue provides ongoing employment law advice to medium-sized companies, public and ecclesiastical employers as well as associations. The firm also assists its national and international clients with restructuring matters and employee data protection issues as well as collective bargaining and works agreements. Representing clients in litigation constitutes another key element of Judith Heyn's team. She has particular expertise in the healthcare and hospital sectors. Gernod Meinel is also well versed in personnel representation law.
