Dispute Resolution I Technology & Data

Position

Christian Schultz, LL.M. (King's College London) is a Partner in the Fieldfisher offices in Hamburg and Munich and advises on Tech Litigation and software Copyright Law.

He is a certified expert in IT law and a specialist for technology-related disputes. As a litigator, he advises companies in disputes on digital business models, software and the use of data. He assists online platforms, software providers and companies operating in regulated digital markets both in and out of court, for example in contentious IT projects, data protection disputes or the legal management of IT security incidents. These disputes often touch on the very core of his clients’ business models.

Outside the courtroom, Christian Schultz advises companies on the implementation of increasingly complex EU digital regulations, including the Digital Services Act, the Data Act and new requirements under consumer law. His direct experience in court proceedings provides particular added value for his clients: our advice focuses on areas where compliance with these regulations leads to conflicts in practice and is enforced through the courts – particularly in the form of strategic actions brought by consumer organisations or class action plaintiffs.

Career

Prior to joining Fieldfisher, he worked at another large international law firm.

Languages

He advises his clients in German and English.

Education

In his advice on technology-related matters, he draws on an LL.M. specialising in IP/IT from King’s College London. Christian Schultz completed his German legal education at the Universities of Bonn and Münster. During this time, he spent a year studying at the University of Oxford through an exchange programme (Diploma in Legal Studies). During his studies, he received funding from the German National Academic Foundation.

For his legal training, he moved north to Hamburg, where he worked at a Magic Circle law firm and at the European Commission in Brussels. He has been admitted to the bar in Hamburg since March 2020.
