Draft proposals by the European Commission's for reform of the European data protection regime have been leaked. They were due to be put forward formally in late January. They envisage a wholesale change of data protection practices the EU. For instance all public bodies and all private sector bodies with more than 250 staff will be required to appoint a data protection officer. Let us wait for the detail when the proposals are actually published.
