Chattertons handles partnership disputes, construction claims and professional negligence litigation, with a focus on instructions from the agricultural, leisure and education sectors. The practice is headed by David Rogerson, a mediator and specialist in professional negligence claims, and includes Robert Clark, Patrick Cordingley and Ben Ellis. The firm is mainly present in Lincolnshire where it has multiple offices, but also has a wider East Midlands presence. Recent work includes representing an individual in a dispute with a former business partner, acting for the trustees of a discretionary will trust in a dispute with the only living beneficiaries, and acted for construction contractors in a claim for breach of collateral warranties.

The ‘professional and always responsive’ team at Chattertons excels in discrimination and unfair dismissal claims, but also has a strong track record in corporate support work, collective redundancy consultations and day-to-day HR support. Acting for clients from the education sector is another key specialism. The varied client list contains large national and international companies alongside small regional businesses, in particular from the Lincolnshire and Newark regions. Practice head Danielle Lister, who has ‘excellent communication skills’, and Desley Sherwin are the main contacts. The practice successfully defended an employer against a constructive unfair dismissal claim, and recently advised several employees in the context of a TUPE consultation, in particular on objections to proposed changes in the employment terms and conditions.

The ‘very good’ department at Chattertons predominantly advises business clients, with marked strength in the circus, engineering and higher education sectors. Visa and residence card applications, especially in family reunion contexts, are key areas of expertise alongside advice on sponsorship licence compliance. Human rights and European Union immigration law are also part of the team’s portfolio. Solicitor advocate Louis Harman directs the practice. In addition to successfully appealing a refusal to grant leave to remain for a client based on human rights grounds, the group also recently secured long-term visa for foreign senior managers.
