Lawyer Rankings

Colombia > City focus > Medellín

One of the most expert liability firms in Colombia’,  Tamayo Jaramillo & Asociados is considered by many to rank among the leading insurance boutiques nationally. Headquartered in Medellín — with an additional base in Bogotá — the firm is particularly weighted towards contentious insurance work, where it represents insurers, reinsurers and insured companies in judicial and arbitral proceedings; it demonstrates particularly notable expertise in environmental contamination, product liability, major accidents and medical malpractice cases. A former Supreme Court judge, founding partner Javier Tamayo Jaramillo is ‘an institution in Colombia on the subject of insurance law’; he recently teamed up with Carlos Andres Gonzales Galvís to represent Seguros de Vida Suramericana in complex pension fund insurance litigation initiated by Electrolima. Laura Castaño Echeverri stands out for her ‘professionalism, knowledge of the subject and expertise’ and specialises in insurance litigation, with an emphasis on medical liability; she is advising HDI Seguros in a sensitive dispute concerning the mistreatment of a minor in foster care. Other key contacts include civil and state liability partner Daniel Ossa Gómez; dispute resolution specialist Luis Miguel Gómez; and Margarita Rosa Jaramillo, who handles liability and insurance.
