Passionate about being an integral team member on infrastructure and other construction projects, including public-private partnerships. Led and advised on legal teams for many projects in health (Fort St John, Surrey Outpatient, Royal Jubilee), transportation (Champlain, Golden Ears, Grimstad, Kicking Horse, Henday, Calgary), education (Alberta and New Brunswick schools), water/wastewater (McLoughlin Point, Britannia, Sooke), and corrections (Okanagan, Nanaimo, Allouette, Surrey Pre-trial) in Canada, the US, Europe, and Asia for public authorities, developers, and design-builders. Frequent author, lecturer, and co-author of Practical Law of Architecture, Engineering and Geoscience (4th ed., Pearson, 2022), and A Practical Guide to Ethics and Professional Practice for Engineers and Geoscientists (Pearson, 2021). Selected by peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in Canada in the fields of Construction Law, Project Finance Law and Public Procurement Law; and recognized in Chambers Canada and Chambers Global. Vancouver-based infrastructure specialist Douglas Sanders spearheads the department and has strong experience in PPP projects; he is advising Alstom Canada on its participation as a member of ONxpress Transportation Partners for the Metrolinx Regional Express Railway GO Rail Expansion Project, Package 3. In Montreal, Pascale Dionne is noted for project finance work, while Sarah Bird specializes in PPP and project development in Vancouver, and senior counsel Richard Shaban is noted for construction and procurement in Toronto.
