Chicago-based Linda Coberly heads Winston & Strawn LLP’s team, which receives mandates in appeals in areas ranging from intellectual property to financial services and antitrust. Coberly represented both defendants in the Seventh Circuit appellate antitrust proceedings filed by the Federal Trade Commission and pertaining to a proposed merger between NorthShore University HealthSystem and Advocate Health Care in the Chicago metropolitan area. Steffen Johnson acted for Cox Communications in long-standing patent litigation against Spring Communications, concerning voice over IP technology. Elizabeth Papez, Geoffrey Eaton and Andrew Nichols are also noted.

Winston & Strawn LLP’s Chicago-based practice regularly represents manufacturers in the food, beverages, cosmetics and electronics industries in class actions and product liability suits. The class actions team is co-led by Amanda Groves in Charlotte and Los Angeles-based Stephen Smerek. Scott Glaubermann heads the products team and George Lombardi is another key figure. Stephen D’Amore and Washington DC-based Andrew Nichols continue to represent Archer Daniels Midland in a class action alleging equine products were contaminated with a chemical additive that is poisonous to horses. In other work, Kimball Anderson acted for Dell in a putative class action alleging false advertising of the battery life of Inspiron laptops. In early 2017, trial expert Thomas Melsheimer joined the firm from Fish & Richardson P.C., in course of the establishment of a new office in Dallas.
