Gerhard Schmidt is the Managing Partner of Weil’s German offices and one of the leading Corporate and Restructuring lawyers in Germany. He was involved in a number of landmark transactions such as advising Exide Holdings in the extensive reorganization of its European/rest of world operations and their subsequent sale to its secured noteholders pursuant to a credit bid; Upfield (controlling shareholder is KKR) on the acquisition of Arivia; KKR on the acquisition of heidelpay from AnaCap; Advent International/Bain Capital in the acquisition of leading German payment services provider Concardis GmbH and the subsequent merger of Concardis Payment Group with Nets A/S; Novalpina Capital/Odyssey Europe AS in the successful takeover offer for Olympic Entertainment Group in a transaction with a highly complex structure unprecedented in the Baltic states.

Education

Universities of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Lausanne and Strasbourg (law degree 1982; Dr. jur. 1984). Business administration studies at the Institut Européen d’Administration des Affaires (INSEAD), Fontainebleau, France (MBA 1984). Admitted to practice in Germany in 1986 and licensed as a tax advisor in 1988.
