Shearman & Sterling LLP has a strong track record in complex, high-profile international transactions and disputes in challenging geopolitical and regulatory elements, whether in Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia or other emerging markets. As an example, it is currently acting for NEOM Company on the financing and development of the $8.5bn NGHC Project to create a world-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia production facility. Project development and finance partner Ben Shorten, who oversees the emerging markets work done from London, took the lead on that deal, working with colleagues in Abu Dhabi and Riyadh. Key partner Sanja Udovicic frequently acts for sponsors, investors and lenders on energy and infrastructure transactions, and her recent highlights include advising IFC  on the negotiation of PCS terms as part of a financing to Amunet Wind Power Company to develop a 505MW wind power plant in Egypt. The firm hired Julia Derrick from Ashurst senior associate Kristel Fournier-O’Connor from Allen & Overy LLP to add experience in M&A, project development and commercial contracts in the energy sector.
