Xennia is a Partner and head of the Natural Resources: Mining and Environment Practice Areas, specializing in the advisory to both national and foreign companies and public agencies on regulation and contracts.

Career

She has significant experience in the mining area, she takes part in the planning and procurement of permits throughout all stages involved in a mining project and in the implementation thereof in the process of exploration, exploitation-beneficiation and closure of mines.

In the commercial and contractual area, Xennia has a great deal of experience in negotiations for the acquisition of mining projects and/or companies; due diligence, financing; designing of simple and complex contractual structures, as well as contracts in relation to similar works, including negotiations with peasant communities for use of lands and others and assistance in litigations.

In the environmental area, she provides advice on the preparation of Environmental Studies; on the process of construction and production of industrial activities; and on procedures for supervision, inspection and sanctions.

Rubio Leguía Normand offers clients a strong mix of regulatory and corporate expertise under the leadership of Xennia Forno and Emil Ruppert. The department advises local and global mining companies on operational issues, permitting, compliance, M&A and the acquisition of assets. It also offers particular expertise in the negotiation, drafting and implementation of joint ventures by mining companies, and in negotiations with the local communities affected by mining operations. Forno is a key name for cross-border investments and regulatory matters; while Ruppert is recommended for corporate and financing work. Miguel Angel Soto acts for mining companies, investors, government entities and multilateral organisations in development, corporate and financing issues. Rubio Leguía Normand handles both contentious and non-contentious environmental issues for a broad range of clients, including those in the manufacturing, energy and natural resources sectors. It is adept at advising on the environmental risks relating to M&A, as well as project finance, permits and licenses for various projects, with a focus on air quality control, water rights, nature protection and hazardous waste management. Other areas of focus include commercial and legal support regarding Clean Development Mechanisms (CDM) and offset projects, as well as carbon finance structuring. Xennia Forno leads the practice and is well known for project development work, environmental litigation and compliance, while key practitioner Miguel Angel Soto is recommended for environmental issues pertaining to the renewable energy sector. Former practice co-head Diego Grisolle left in March 2023.
