McDermott Will & Emery LLP specializes in the life sciences and technology sectors. Recent standout examples include the representation of 23andMe in a patent and trademark infringement suit against competitor Ancestry.com regarding patents on relatedness identification through DNA analysis; that matter was led by Silicon Valley duo William Gaede and Bhanu Sadasivan. In Washington DC, practice head Nicole Jantzi, Paul Schoenhard and Ian Brooks secured a PTAB victory for Contour IP Holding in proceedings against GoPro, which had challenged camera patents and filed for appeal after being defeated in first instance. ZTE, Sandoz and Amgen are also clients. The team has recently seen a number of departures: Natalie Bennett, Christopher Bright, Jeffrey Gargano, Hersh Mehta, Kevin Shortsle, Krista Vink Venegas and Brent Hawkins joined Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP; Eric Hagen joined DLA Piper LLP (US); and Rita Yoon left for Jones Day.
